Hard of Hearing Clubs:

HoH clubs are social clubs particularly for those who have hearing difficulties and their families.  These are run throughout the county and are currently available at Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft and Bungay.

Often the clubs have guest speakers and social outings, and all the clubs are able to provide information and advice regarding hearing loss and hearing aids, assistive equipment, lipreading classes and offer general support.

At these cubs there is the full use of an induction loop system and the sessions are led so that only one person at a time is able to speak through the microphone allowing for everyone is the class to clearly hear what is being said.

For those whose hearing loss does not allow benefit from a loop system there is the benefit of speech-to-text operators.  A speed typist provides a typed summary of the conversation which is then projected to an individual via a laptop computer or onto a large screen for all to read.

There is a small subscription to pay, this may vary from club-to-club, and is a delightful way to gain support and friendship.

Lip Reading Classes:

Lip Reading is a wonderful tool for hard-of-hearing people to gain confidence and ease communication, these classes are run FREE OF CHARGE throughout Suffolk by qualified teachers.

They are generally run to coincide with school term times and are structured to teach you how to recognise lip shapes and patterns during a conversation.  Your confidence will be built and general advice and information is also given regarding hearing loss and communication.
